"We will have much better delivery capacity, which will benefit the customers," says VP Property Terje Kvisvik about the large bulk project underway at the base.
It involves new, modern facilities for our customers Halliburton and Baker Hughes.
Here, large volumes (bulk) will be mixed and prepared for offshore use, in a facility that combines various raw materials/chemicals into products for direct use in drilling or production operations. This can include the mixing of drilling fluids, cement, and various chemicals for injection.
“With the new facilities, the work will be safer, more environmentally friendly, and most importantly, it will be significantly faster to fill a vessel and send it out to operation again,” says Terje.
Both service companies are investing in Vestbase and are building new facilities. Baker Hughes has already started using their new building, and Halliburton is expected to be ready during the winter/spring of 2025.
“At the same time, we are taking the opportunity to reroute pipelines and move, among other things, shore power containers to improve efficiency. This is part of the preparations for shifting activity westward on the base. Pier 7 will eventually either be fully or partially decommissioned,” Terje explains.
“Large changes like this mean that we sometimes have to close current access roads, establish detours, or reroute the road. HSE is always our highest priority. We have had close and good cooperation with our customers and especially our sister company Logistics during this phase.”
When the facility is ready, NorSea will house Halliburton’s two major bulk hubs in Stavanger (Tananger) and Kristiansund. These two facilities will be able to supply installations from the far south to the far north along our coast. A promising future!
