A part of the big machinery
“Here at Polarbase, our managers are focused on utilizing people’s strengths and talents!” says Martin Valstad. He works as an Inventory Analyst and spends a lot of time in the office but also contributes to the practical operations at the base, handling reception, loading, and packing of goods.
“It’s fun to have variety in my job, but I’ve always had a liking for numbers and lists, so logistics is the most important aspect for me. I really enjoy it, and I’m also pursuing a degreeas a logistics coordinator alongside my job. I like finding the best ways to solve things withinour IT systems. There’s room to be a bit creative!”
Martin receives assignments from rigs and vessels out at sea that need to have goods or equipment delivered. “My task is to arrange for the order to be picked up here at the warehouse. I feel like a small but important part of the big machinery!”
He considers himself fortunate to have found the right fit and figured out what he wants to do for a living. “I have a background in sales and service and got word about a job at NorSeafrom a friend.”
Martin hails from Lakselv but grew up in Asker. He attended a folk high school in Gol and served in the military in Stavanger, Sørreisa, and Ørlandet. Now, he’s happy to be back in thenorth. “I have a lot of family here, and all four of my siblings live in Lakselv. It’s nice to have family around.”
When he was younger, Martin contemplated becoming a psychologist. “I find peoplefascinating! I enjoy talking to people and making connections. Knowing people, both here at NorSea and among the customers, is an advantage.”
He believes that openness, one of NorSea’s values, is crucial. “Openness fosters better communication among people. It’s easy to ask each other for help, and we work well in teams.”
“If you’re considering applying for a job at NorSea – go for it!” he says with a smile. “Show initiative and be a little proactive, and you’ll get to be a part of many things and find your place.”
